The District of Squamish announced yesterday the hiring of Tom Easterbrook as Fire Chief, Bob Smith as Manager of Operations and Brian Barnett as Action Manager of Engineering. Tom Easterbrook has been hired as Fire Chief of Squamish Fire Rescue. His experience includes a succession of firefighting and leadership positions including the position of Deputy Fire Chief/Assistant General Manager Emergency Services for Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services. As well as high-level leadership in many different fire rescue settings, primarily in the Lower Mainland. His experience also covers all aspects of emergency operations. Easterbrook will join Mike Adams, Deputy Chief. Mike Adams is a local Squamish resident who decided to end his commute to join Squamish Fire Rescue in November 2009. Before that he was with the District of North Vancouver Fire/Rescue. Brian Barnett has been hired as Acting Manager of Engineering. Brian has reportedly over 20 years experience as an Engineer 13 years of which were spent with the Resort Municipality of Whistler where he most recently held the position of General Manager, Environmental Services. His experience also includes public works, including water, sewer, flood protection, transportation, along with the management of engineering services, development services, capital projects and environmental stewardship. Bob Smith has been hired as the new Manager of Operations and to facilitate a seamless transition started on January 4, 2010. Bob has over 16 years of municipal experience most recently as Operations Services Manager at the City of Kimberley, and his duties included water distribution, waste water, operations (roads, sidewalks, solid waste, drainage, trails, electrical, and fleet) and the Engineering Department. The District bids farewell to Gord Prescott, Manager of Operations who will retire on January 15, 2010 after five years of public service.
