It’s the middle of the night, your feet are restless, you toss and turn, but it’s no use – you can’t overcome the feeling to do an Irish jig, unfortunately you have no idea how.

Well relief is on the way, on Friday October 24th at the Brackendale Art gallery (doors at 8pm) there will be a an instructional/fun evening of traditional Irish music and dances. Come out and let your feet move to the directions of caller Kari-Ann McCullough backed by fiddles, Concertina Guitar and something else that we have no idea what it is or what it will sound like, but we’re sure it will be good whatever it is. Irish dancing is a little like square dancing, or so it’s been explained to me, except there’s no cowboy hats and Garth Brooks.

And if that isn’t enough to tempt you there will be leprechaun tossing…okay the leprechaun tossing isn’t a 100 per cent, but come out and check it out anyway.

The best Halloween story ever PDF Print E-mail

On the CBC program The Hour, with George Stroumbaulopoulus (is that a whopper of a name or what? When I’m telling my daughter about something I’ve seen on his show, I usually add a couple more opolopuses just for the heck of it.). Anyhow, as I was saying, on that show, one of the things I like most is a segment called: Best Story Ever. Usually it’s the person who’s being interviewed who tells something about themselves. In this instance, it  didn’t happen to me, but to very close friends and neighbors of mine, more than forty years ago. For privacy sake, let’s call them The Brennans.

A long time ago, in a land far away lived Jim and Jean Brennan and their six kids. Two older boys, 11 and 12, three girls, 9, 7 and 4 and finally a little boy of 2. Jim worked hard for his large family, and Jean worked just as hard trying to keep up with all the laundry, meals and needs of getting kids off to school, and all the other activities of the family.

In the final tally 18 local citizens have decided to make a run for the six council seats in the November 15 civic election.

With Councillor Raj Kahlon retiring and Greg Gardner running for mayor that leaves two vacant seats on council, incumbents Corinne Lonsdale, Mike Jenson, Patricia Heintzman and Jeff McKenzie are all running for reelection. McKenzie surprised a few who thought he might try to upset Gardner for the mayoralty.

Transit stop for seniors needed
The new seniors centre downtown has one potentially major flaw, no bus stop. Currently seniors have to walk to the nearest bus stop in front of Shoppers Drug Mart. For many seniors that can make using transit on a regular basis difficult, councillors asked District staff Tuesday (October 7) if transit buses couldn’t around in front of the seniors centre.

“What’s feasible for a bus stop right now? Shoppers is too far for a bus stop,” said Councillor Greg Gardner.
