The process of change. Change is happening all the time in many areas of our lives and external to us. It is the bigger life changes that I want to speak about today. There are 3 steps in this cycle. The first is answering the call. This is either an awareness that something needs to change or accepting the change that has arrived at your doorstep. As an example I recently came to the realization that I needed to move. Where I was living was not meeting my needs. The underlying issue was that I really don't like moving which created some resistence. When the right opportunity came I made the decision to move. The next step is embracing the uncertainty. It's that in between stage where you really don't know what is on the other side of what you have said yes to. It is the stage where you question everything and you feel uncomfortable as you are unsure of what is coming or whether you have made the right decision. Or in the case of moving you are in limbo picking up your roots in one place but you can't yet plant them. It is a bit of a waiting game. Depending on your situation it can take a while and can be quite stressful and even exciting. The last step is a New Beginning. This is the exciting part. This is where the magic can happen. It is when all of your hard work and efforts pay off and you are realizing the benefits of your decision that you may not have seen when you were in steps 1 & 2. This is when you get to enjoy the new possibilities that may exist. In my case I am enjoying my new space as I sit and write this. I never could have anticipated how good it feels to be in this new space. The feeling of being at "home" instead of just having a place to live. Looking at the Blue Jays outside the window. A great metaphor for this process of change is the caterpillar becoming a butterfly. In step one the caterpillar begins the process of making a cocoon. Step 2 the caterpillar is transforming in the cocoon unaware of what is coming. Step 3 is a new beginning as a butterfly. The caterpillar had no idea that it would become a beautiful butterfly yet it surrendered to the process. This cycle can be happening in many aspects of our lives at the same time. Some small changes some big changes. It forces us to trust that the outcomes will be good for us. All we need to do is say yes to the change to allow the process to begin. It is also a very good time to focus on what you want in the end. Set some clear intentions about what you would like it to look and feel like on the other side. Aim high because life can be magical at times. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your thoughts and questions.
